2024 marks the 21st year in a row of the neo-nazi Lukovmarsh demonstration in our city of Sofia. “Lukovmarsh” is a neo-nazi torch march with big international participation. Far-right groups from all over Europe come to Sofia every year to support their local counterparts in commemorating the Bulgarian antisemite general Hristo Lukov (1887-1943)  who was associated with the Third Reich. 

Over the years we made sure that there was always resistance against Lukovmarsh and a counter demonstration called “No Nazis on Our Streets!”. We believe that our efforts and the international solidarity over the years have helped to make the neo-nazi torches dimmer!

The emergence of modern states in Europe developed the capitalist system and its various mechanisms for controlling territories internally and externally.Since then, these mechanisms have taken on a peculiar form of political-cultural sophistication designed to keep the capitalist system functioning with minimal need for social friction, especially through methods of collective persuasion about socio-cultural standardisation.

Racism, as a structural mechanism of social control, has been updated over time and adjusted to different social configurations in order to remain an efficient tool of domination. Through the operation of sociocultural differentiation, us versus the other, it brings to the heart of the matter the hierarchisation and, at the limit, the dehumanisation of those considered different. The power of this complex mechanism is subtle, reaching us in so many different ways that we might not even recognise that we are reproducing racist practices. That's why we understand that racism is a structural element of Western societies and, therefore, we who are part of these societies are consciously or unconsciously co-dominantly strengthening racism by reproducing its practices.

In this sense, we are inviting you to reflect and discuss how racism is present in social movements and what to do about it.

Poziv k odpovedi tekme z Izraelom – Brez iger med genocidom

22. in 25. februarja bo slovenska košarkarska reprezentanca v Kopru igrala kvalifikacijski tekmi za evropsko prvenstvo proti reprezentancama Ukrajine in Izraela. Takrat bo minilo 141 dni od začetka zadnjega napada izraelske države na okupirana ozemlja Palestine, v katerem je do danes umrlo več kot 24 tisoč ljudi, od tega več kot 10 tisoč otrok. Menimo, da je nečloveško ostati tiho, ko bo v Kopru igrala reprezentanca države, ki izvaja genocid nad Palestinci in zaseda njihova ozemlja. Države, ki je še po besedah generalnega sekretarja ZN odgovorna za najhujše kršitve mednarodnih konvencij o človekovih pravicah po drugi svetovni vojni. Menimo, da je nečloveško se pretvarjati, da se ni nič zgodilo, ignorirati vsa grozodejstva in uživati v športnem spektaklu, ko ekipa igra pod zastavo, pod katero izraelske »obrambne« sile v Palestini aktivno izvajajo genocid.

Zavedamo se, da bomo slišali nasprotovanja, češ da v športu ni prostora za politiko in da so izraelski košarkarji samo športni profesionalci, ki z vojno v Gazi nimajo nič. Na te besede že na tem mestu odgovarjamo, da je čas, da končamo s sprenevedanjem in hipokrizijo. V Palestini je na preizkusu človeštvo. Če v tej situaciji ostajamo tiho, bomo padli kot ljudje in kot družba. Postali bomo soodgovorni za genocid. Nismo samo športniki in nismo samo navijači. Smo tudi ljudje in soodgovorni smo za svet, v kakršnem živimo.

Šport je bil, je in vedno bo eden tistih družbenih prostorov, kjer se odsevajo tudi splošne družbene razmere. Je tudi eden tistih prostorov, kjer tako športniki kot navijači posredno ali neposredno izražajo politična stališča in proteste. Včasih so ti izrazi žal tudi sovražni in nedostojni. Ampak ali je to argument za to, da v tej situaciji ostajamo tiho? So dejanja solidarnosti s temnopoltimi proti rasizmu, ki so jih in jih še vedno izražajo športniki in športnice po vsem svetu, nesprejemljiva? Gre za nedostojno mešanje politike in športa? Mar niso ti izrazi v resnici podpora načelnim vrednotam, ki zavračajo vse oblike sovraštva in nasilja in ki jih promovirajo vse športne zveze? Kako nasprotovanje genocidu in vojni ni del teh vrednos? Vprašajte ukrajinske košarkarje, kako bi se počutili, če bi v istih kvalifikacijah nastopala reprezentanca Rusije.

Ob tej priložnosti na Košarkarsko zvezo Slovenije, košarkarje in košarkarice ter druge športnike in športnice, navijače in navijačice ter splošno javnost naslavljamo odprto pismo in poziv k opredelitvi do genocida v Gazi in zavzetju aktivne drže do terorja izraelske države.

Košarkarsko zvezo Slovenije pozivamo:

1. da odpove tekmo. V skladu z izključitvijo ruskih športnikov z mednarodnih tekmovanj po napadu Rusije na Ukrajino Izrael ne bi smel sodelovati na nobeni mednarodni športni prireditvi, dokler ne konča trenutnega masakra v Gazi in se umakne z okupiranih palestinskih ozemelj;
2. da se pridruži pobudam, da se izraelsko košarkarsko reprezentanco izključi iz vseh mednarodnih športnih zvez in tekmovanj ter da to javno podpre s protestnimi pismi na evropsko in mednarodno košarkarsko zvezo;
3. da se opredeli do genocida v Gazi ter se pridruži pozivom k takojšnji in brezpogojni ustavitvi ognja, h končanju okupacije in za svobodno Palestino.

Od Košarkarske zveze pričakujemo, da se bo odzvala v skladu s športnimi vrednotami miroljubnosti, sobivanja in »poštene igre«. Če na ta poziv ne bodo odgovorili z aktivno držo proti nasilju, bomo to razumeli kot podporo dominantni (elitistični) politiki, ki se ob grozodejstvih v Gazi zaradi lastnih ekonomskih in političnih razlogov spreneveda in molči.

Od košarkarjev in drugih športnikov pričakujemo, da se kot posamezniki in kot ljudje javno opredelijo do genocida v Gazi, zahtevajo takojšnjo in brezpogojno ustavitev ognja, se zavzamejo za konec okupacije in za svobodno Palestino.

Na navijače, športne navdušence in splošno javnost pa naslavljamo poziv, da podprejo to pobudo in se pridružijo vsem ostalim aktivnostim za končanje vojne v Gazi. Tudi tistim ob in na tekmi v Kopru, če ta ne bo odpovedana.

Javnost večinoma ne podpira vladajoče doktrine relativizacije izraelskih zločinov na okupiranih palestinskih ozemljih, kar nenazadnje kažejo številni protesti, ki so se odvili v zadnjih mesecih. Če tekma Slovenija – Izrael 25. 2. 2024 v Kopru ne bo odpovedana, lahko pričakujemo angažma dela družbe, ki mu je mar.

The denial and glorification of the crimes of the nazi past is a common phenomenon. More and more people are trying to idealise the fascist era and with that, they are betraying the future they want.

Fascism brought total dictatorship, mass genocide, war and misery to humanity. Horthy, in the service of the nazi empire, forced hundreds of thousands of hungarian soldiers to participate in genocide, most of whom lost their lives in the interest of german colonialism. The nazi empire, in collaboration with the hungarian state, murdered half a million hungarian citizens using industrial methods. The nazi army plundered europe, including hungary. It dismantled factories and took them away – except for those ones that the workers prevented from being removed. The german army blew up every bridge in the country. The hungarian ’arrow cross party’, the servants of the german nazis tortured and murdered thousands of people until the last minute of the war. Their senseless military resistance left much of Budapest heavely damaged. Mass deaths and ruins were the results of the nazis' "heroic deeds".

In February 1945, nazi imperial troops that were trapped in the Buda castle tried to escape unsuccessfully. The area around the castle is full of people who see the nazis as heroes. They hold concerts, try to march in uniforms or pretend to be on a hike, not on a nazi commemoration. They organise the commemorative hikes specifically because they believe that the authorities cannot prevent them to gather then. The "outbreak tour" has now become the largest nazi commemoration event. The organisers of the tour receive substantial state funding, despite the fact that the tour clearly states in its description that its aim is to pay tribute to the 'heroes' of the nazi empire that plundered and destroyed europe. Those who take part in this tour are not only human decorations of the fascists' plans for power today, but also present an identification with the atrocities of the ’arrow cross’ nazi regime.

By glorifying the deeds of their former predecessors, today's nazis are presenting their own plans for the future. Those who consider the former 'race war' heroic want to do exactly the same now.

Never again fascism! Say no to glorifying the nazis! Stop the nazis of today!

Antifa Sofija – SOLIDARITY CALL FOR THE DEMONSTRATION “NO NAZIS ON OUR STREETS”

2024 marks the 21st year in a row of the neo-nazi Lukovmarsh demonstration in our city of Sofia. “Lukovmarsh” is a neo-nazi torch march with big international participation. Far-right groups from all over Europe come to Sofia every year to support their local counterparts in commemorating the Bulgarian antisemite general Hristo Lukov (1887–1943) who was associated with the Third Reich. The organizers from the Bulgarian National Union (BNS) are often spotted in neo-nazi demonstrations in Poland and Italy. That is not surprising since the “guest list” of Lukovmarsh includes internationals from Spain (La Falange), Germany (NPD, Die Rechte, Der III Weg), France (Terre et peuple), Italy (CasaPound), Austria , Croatia, Poland (Narodowe Odrodzenie Polski), Romania (Nova Dreapta), Hungary, Sweden (The Nordic Front). Over the years we made sure that there was always resistance against Lukovmarsh and a counter demonstration called “No Nazis on Our Streets!”. We believe that our efforts and the international solidarity over the years have helped to make the neo-nazi torches dimmer! We continue our struggle until they completely disappear from our city, as well as in the rest of the world.

Lukovmarsh is becoming more and more associated with neo-nazis by the general public and has far less attendance! We want to warmly thank each person who has come to Sofia in solidarity with our counter demo “No Nazis on our Streets!” in the past! Your support has helped immensely!

Yet, even when Lukovmarsh is banned by the Sofia Municipality, every year neo-nazis continue to be calmly escorted by police and left to march. Never dispersed, never arrested and always protected by the authorities. At the same time, peaceful demonstrations in solidarity with the people of Palestine are banned with the threat of force, dispersed and the homes of organizers invaded by the police and the special forces.

As antifascists, we clearly see the double standard of the state. In Bulgaria, you can be an antisemitic neo-nazi but if you protest a genocide -it is deemed “antisemitism” or “terrorism” without any particular reason. As antifascists, we will continue to rise against antisemitism and the real antisemites!

As antifascists, we will not let Putin’s pretend antifascism to be the only one that is heard of.

As antifascists, we will always stand against Erdogan’s fascism and ethnic cleansing of the Kurdish people.

As antifascists and as feminists we will not leave the women of Iran alone.

As antifascists, we will always stand with migrants, who are currently facing further restrictions by the EU.

This is the ethos that “No Nazis on Our Steets!” always had and will continue to perpetuate.

To those of you who have come previous years and to those that consider coming this year – we would like to officially invite you to “No Nazis on our Streets!
